QUESTIONS ABOUT THERAPY
You Ask - I Answer
HOW LONG DOES EACH THERAPY SESSION LAST?
Most therapy session are 50 minutes, unless otherwise arranged.
Intake sessions are 75 minutes and are prorated at the 50 minutes rate.
CAN I BRING MY BABY WITH ME?
Yes! Most of my postpartum clients bring their infant to session, but this doesn't work for everyone. As you might expect, this is fine while the infant is in arms. Once they begin to be more mobile, however, this becomes a bit of a distraction to the therapeutic work and I ask that you make arrangements to come to therapy alone at that time.
DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE?
I am an out-of-network provider with all insurance companies. Many clients are able to utilize their out-of-network benefits for counseling services and get reimbursed by their insurance company. I will provide you with a superbill which you can submit for possible reimbursement usually ranging from 50-70%. I also encourage you to verify your out-of-network benefits prior to your session. If you have access to HRA/FSA/HAS funds, I accept those funds as forms of payment as well.
WHAT ARE YOUR RATES?
My rates are congruent with the market in the San Francisco Bay Area. My standard rate for a 50 minute individual therapy session is $200. Please inquire for my specific rates for parent coaching, Conscious Mothering groups and Conscious Upbringing classes.
DO YOU OFFER SLIDING SCALE?
The cost of therapy is an investment in your self-worth, your self-care and in creating the life you want to be living. So, while I do have a few sliding scale spaces available, I encourage you to think deeply about your relationship to paying for therapy and what your reactions might mean. I am happy to discuss this further with you as we explore working together.
HOW DO ONLINE SESSIONS WORK?
We will meet at a prearranged time using the Zoom video platform. The session will be very similar to a session in the office. If we are working in a therapeutic context, all the same laws of confidentiality and jurisdiction apply.
If you are interested in distance work and reside outside the sate of California, please inquire about the possibilities for working together remotely.
DO YOU HAVE A SOCIAL MEDIA OR ONLINE POLICY?
Yes. I write online to educate others on the benefits of therapy and give tools that might help now. Case material is always a fictionalized integration of several cases.
For quotes and reviews on social media sites like Yelp! or Facebook, I discourage clients from posting reviews. The California Board of Behavioral Sciences is clear about mental health practitioners not soliciting reviews on sites like these or asking for quotes for their website. This is because the therapeutic relationship is a unique relationship - a catalyst itself for change and using that defined relationship for self promotion is seen as interrupting the container of therapy.
WHEN WILL I START TO FEEL BETTER?
Many of my clients come to therapy because they are in pain and very ready for something in their life to shift, as soon as possible! And sometimes that does happen quickly. It's an amazing gift to give yourself this space to be witnessed and reflected and that alone can sometimes lessen the intensity of what you're experiencing.
The kind of therapy I offer to my clients is deep, transformative work. Wether I am working with a mother struggling in with her postpartum phase or a 30-something who is trying to process a major life change, my role is to be with you in your pain and help you know your own wisdom more deeply and fully.
My intention is to work deeply, honestly and effectively to support the goals you have for your life. If this sounds exciting or hopeful to you, I encourage you to call or email so we can talk further about working together.
